Companies looking to boost the success of their social media internet marketing campaigns should look at what the Telegraph is doing in this arena.

According to Econsultancy reporter Graham Charlton, figures revealed to blogger Malcolm Coles by the newspaper show that eight per cent of its daily traffic comes from sites such as Digg, Reddit and Twitter.

This represents around 75,000 visits each day from social media and suggests that the newspaper has developed a successful strategy to attract the users of such websites.

Julian Sambles, head of audience development at the Telegraph, said the newspaper will "continue to incorporate tools and services that allow readers to interact and engage with our content when we make changes to our site".

Mr Charlton pointed out that the Telegraph regularly uses social media buttons next to its articles, which allow readers to share stories on several social network sites, including Facebook.

A recent survey by eDigitalResearch and IMRG revealed that fashion retailers may be missing out on the internet marketing opportunities presented by social media.

Indeed, only two per cent of web users questioned were able to name a fashion brand that is active in the social media sphere.
