Active Power has signed up to the European Union (EU) code of conduct for data centres and will encourage other data centre operators to follow suit.
The firm will help the EU disseminate information on the code and will support firms who want to implement best practice to ensure the recommended objectives are met.
Jim Clishem, president and chief executive officer of Active Power, said: "Participation in the EU code of conduct aligns extremely well with Active Power's intelligently energy efficient and economically green flywheel based uninterruptible power supply technology."
He added that the technology was an excellent example of using best practice to achieve EU energy consumption targets.
Currently voluntary, the code of conduct also applies to IT, software and support equipment vendors.
Iomart Managed Hosting was one of the founder signatories of the code of conduct and the firm annually reports its energy consumption and ensures it meets the minimum procurement standards outlined by the directive.
